		<description>You can list all the mirrors in a .metalink (XML) file. This  is used by download programs to try available mirrors. If the master servers are not listed (or given a lower priority) it will spread the load between mirrors. opensuse used this method for the 10.2 release and the master servers did not go down.

People have been using this unofficially to download the Ubuntu isos for a while from http://download.packages.ro/metalink/ubuntu/
