Initially tried
sudo apt-get install module-assistant
sudo m-a update
sudo m-a prepare
sudo m-a a-i alsa
This did not work...i guess this was initialising stuff.
but then command
sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils reset
worked all fine!!

Thanks

I have had several issues over the last few years with Ubuntu. The main reason is that I have not put a disk in my drive since Dapper, and network upgraded to Hardy in succession. I had issues with partial installs, USB loss, and now sound (Pulse related). I have found a simple solution that has worked around most of my problems. I never remove old kernels. I know that this is not always recommended, but in a pinch. it has always worked. To go from Fiesty to Gutsy, to Hardy, I always used an older kernel for the upgrade, and did not remove old packages when they said they were not needed (I have always found a need for them anyway.

In the Pulse audio problems, I have reverted to my generic 2.6.24-19 kernel, and sound works fine. The non generic kernel never has played nice with Pulse Audio, so I refuse to boot into it unless need be (no reason found yet).

If you have already removed your older kernel through upgrade, I am sorry.

I have found that most problems are resolved after two kernel upgrades, so I continue to upgrade to major releases, but keep the old kernel untill a third comes out, and then move up one.

It is nice that they auto remove unneeded packages to save space, but the old adage "be careful when deleting" has proved very useful in community editions of OS's

Also, if you were to change the name, i'd leave rtm at the front, so it automatically narrows down the autocomplete feature! :)

If you wanted it to sound more natural, wouldn't "for" be a good replacement for "on"?

I.e. - rtm Get milk for tomorrow / rtm get milk for wednesday / rtm get milk for 10/03/2008

The way to make it work in a nice way (without submitting forms) is using the api of rtm (with api key and api signing).
All that you need is in http://www.rememberthemilk.com/services/api/
I'll be doing some research and testing for the api to work, I *need* this XD
so.. I'll be posting here if i got something that's worth sharing.

maybe a good command name would be "add to rtm" instead of "rtm" by itself, because we can implement more methods later using the API.

Like it or not, WebKit is largely Apple's baby. Yes, KDE deserves HUGE amount of the credit, since WebKit is built on the shoulders of KHTML. But the two have been diverging since. If we look at WebKit, we can see that most of the developers are employed by Apple, Apple is the primary user of WebKit, hell even WebKits logo and the name of their blog is based on Safari!

To claim that WebKit and Apple are totally unrelated and separate is.... well, dumb. And complaining about calling WebKit "Apple's Webkit" is splitting hairs in the max.

Technically, it's as much KDE's as Apple's Webkit. Webkit is based on KHTML (a KDE project), but so many fixes and improvements have been contributed by Apple then by the community (when WWebkit was made opensource) that is has not much in common with KHTML anymore...

Yeah, it is largely KDE, but there are now lots of contributors to WebKit. My point is more that as a _community_ driven project, there are now dozens of contributors, not just Apple, Google, Adobe or KDE. Its everyone, everywhere.

Last time I checked it was KDE's WebKit, since they did a lot of the initial hard work. Then again, I guess having Apple in your blog post gives you better adwords than KDE.

I find it interesting that you say "lots of companies" are behind Apple. Most of the code is probably still written by KDE people.
